Lu You (traditional Chinese: 陸游; simplified Chinese: 陆游; 1125–1210) [1] was a Chinese historian and poet of the Southern Song Dynasty (南宋). Lu You was born on a boat floating in the Wei River early on a rainy morning, November 13, 1125.

Lu You (born 1125, Shanyin [now Shaoxing], Zhejiang province, China—died 1210, Shanyin) was one of the most important and prolific Chinese writers of the Southern Song dynasty, noted for his collection of nearly 10,000 poems as well as numerous prose pieces.

Lu You composed over 10,000 poems in his lifetime, but nowadays more than 9,300 still exist, including nearly 5,000 with a focus on retrieving the lost land and on love for his hometown. His anthologies of poems and essays are an important part of Chinese literature.

Born during the turbulent years of the invasion by troops of the Jin Kingdom and the collapse of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), Lu You received patriotic education in the family from when he was a child. When grown up, he never gave up his dream to help rejuvenate his nation and reunite the country under the Song Dynasty.
