The MGL (Multiple Grenade Launcher) was developed in 1981 by Milkor for the SADF (South African Defence Force). Shortly after its introduction, the MGL was adopted by the armed forces of various other countries.

The MGL-140 was adopted as the M32 MGL. The version that was adopted differed somewhat from the MGL-140 in having a large barrel shroud that mounts the four Picatinny rails. The M32 MGL is issued with the M2A1 reflex sight which can be adjusted for range.

Milkor USA, Inc. also manufactures the M32 MGL right here in the U.S. According to Jane’s Defence Weekly (January 11, 2006), the U.S. Marine Corps has purchased approx 9,000 units of the new (updated/upgraded) weapon system.
