2023年12月22日 · We’ve seen a lot of topics regarding the armor of the Abrams series of tanks, more specifically the presence of DU (depleted uranium) armor, and so we’d like to share our data on the subject. Most sources on radiation safety clarify that the only threat to personnel is posed from armor packages in the cheeks of the turret.

Armor protection against kinetic energy rounds was improved by implementing a new special armor incorporating depleted uranium (DU). This was introduced into the M1A1 production starting October 1988.

All the shaded areas of the tank have DU armor. Notice how the rear turret sides make specific note that DU armor is not present there; no such exemption is made for the hull. There is DU on the hull. However this is just an example of the DU's location on the tank, as the M1A1 wouldn't recieve DU hull armor in mass until the M1A1AIM.

2023年12月31日 · The abrams tanks use DU in their hulls and turrets and have done so since the m1a1hc variants (which signify it by having a U printed on the turret with its id number). The exact composition is secret so you wont find figures on it. Anti spall protection is also incorporated into the armor (not a stupid spall liner "curtain" hanging around).
