Messier 106 (also known as NGC 4258) is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781. M106 is at a distance of about 22 to 25 million light-years away from Earth.

2021年3月22日 · Nice image, and there is some IFN around M106, but I doubt that you have captured it with just a couple hours of luminance (even from Bortle 4). Look around at some of the deeper exposures of M106 you can find online, and I don't think you will find any that match up well with your image for the faint background.

I like to scan the sky, especially near the "classics" and I was just observing near M106, when I found an IFN. I had no idea that there might be something there and the next day, while carefully looking through sketches on Mel Bartels website, I found a sketch with the same IFN.

2019年7月1日 · With the 25" I saw galactic cirrus next to M109 and M106. I traced nebulosity between the two galaxies but it was too wide to make out the edges with the 25". I then used the 6" to trace the cirrus in a marvelous loop from the bowl of the Big Dipper down to Canes Vanetici back to the tail of the Big Dipper.
