2006年6月7日 · Continuing violence, looting and arson have disrupted Dili. An Australian-led international peacekeeping mission is attempting to restore calm and stability to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. Approximately 2500 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel, led by Brigadier Michael Slater, have been deployed on Operation Astute.

They landed at Dili's Comoro Airport, which was quickly secured. This allowed C-130Hs from Townsville carrying the 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (2 RAR) and two M113 armoured personnel carriers from the 3rd/4th Cavalry Regiment to land. That day, C-130s flew 33 sorties and transported 1,500 troops to East Timor. [60]

Part of that was a company from 4RAR (cdo) [now known as 2nd Commando Regiment]. Led to some pretty cool and unusual bits of footage like commandos rolling around an urban environment in M113’s.
