The M24 Chaffee (officially light tank M24) was an American light tank used during the later part of World War II; it was also used in post–World War II conflicts including the Korean War, and by the French in the War in Algeria and the First Indochina War.

2016年9月21日 · Filling in for the obsolete M3 Stuart tank which, the M24 Chaffee light tank entered the battlefields of Europe in November 1944, when 34 units were issued to the U.S. 2nd Cavalry Group (Mechanized) in France. The tank’s main armament was a 75 mm gun opposed to Stuart’s 37 mm.

The M24 Chafee became the replacement for the M/M5 Stuart Family of light tanks made by Cadillac in 1940-41. They stayed in service until the 1980s.

The M24 Chaffee was intended to replace the aging and obsolete Light Tank M5 which was used in supplementary roles. The first thirty-four M24s reached Europe in November 1944 and were issued to the U.S. 2nd Cavalry Group (Mechanized) in France.
