It is featured in Train Sim World as part of the LIRR M3 loco add-on for the Long Island Rail Road route. It was released on May 14th 2020. The M3 - specifically the M3A variant - is also included as one of the two trains in the Harlem Line DLC.

LIRR and Metro-North’s M3/M3A fleet saw enhanced features such as: GSI 70 casting trucks, upgraded mechanical systems and slightly higher traction motor outputs. The entire M1-M3 class was designed to run on DC third rail systems.

The interiors have wallpaper with the NYS insignia and faux wood paneling, and padded red and blue seating with window-facing seats (forward or backward) with a 3-2 seating scheme bisected by an aisle.

Originally branded by Budd as The Metropolitans, the cars are more popularly known under their model names, M1 (late 1960s/1970s cars) and M3 (1980s cars). The proper name for the Metro North series are the M1A and M3A respectively though they are colloquially called by the main LIRR designations for the sake of simplicity.

2025年3月14日 · The M3A's are scheduled to be in-service until end of 2021 because all of 416 M9's in the LIRR order go first before Metro North sees the first of its 188 M9A's. And it's going to take 4 years just to churn through the LIRR portion, provided it starts on-time next year.
