2018年2月3日 · The Sherman Crocodile was a famous WW2 flamethrower tank based on the M4A4 Sherman, a British project used by Allied troops.

One of the technological innovations of the battle, the eight Sherman M4A3R3 medium tanks equipped with flamethrowers ("Ronson" or "Zippo" tanks), proved very effective at clearing Japanese positions.

A USMC M4A3 uses its flame thrower during the Battle of Iwo Jima. The Sherman, like its M3 predecessor, was one of the first tanks to feature a gyroscopically stabilized gun and sight. The stabilization was only in the vertical plane; the mechanism could not slew the turret.

The reply “was that the extra heavy tank was required for assault purposes” (12th Army Group Report of Operations via M4A3E2 “Jumbo” Shermans on Sherman Minutia).

The M4 Sherman was the main Allied tank in WW2, mass-produced to an extent of 50,000 and used in countless conflicts through numerous decades.
