The M60A2 was developed as a stop-gap solution and a testing platform for a new generation of MBTs. A new low-profile turret was designed to go on top of the standard M60A1 hull. The low profile was somewhat spoiled by the commander's machine-gun cupola, but it offered additional visibility for the commander without him getting out of the tank.

2017年7月7日 · The M60A2 featured a unique Gun/Launcher mounted in a new, low profile “space age” turret. It consisted of a large disk with a narrow channel in the center. Each crew member in the turret had their own hatch, a rare feature in tanks.
