Messier 78 - Wikipedia
Messier 78 or M78, also known as NGC 2068, is a reflection nebula in the constellation Orion. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1780 and included by Charles Messier in his catalog of comet-like objects that same year. [4] M78 is the brightest diffuse reflection nebula of a group of nebulae that includes NGC 2064, NGC 2067 and NGC 2071.
M78 - Reflection Nebula in Orion - Astrophotography
2023年11月21日 · Messier 78 is a dark diffuse reflection nebula in the constellation of the hunter, Orion. It is very close to Messier 42 (The Orion Nebula) and IC 434 (The Horsehead Nebula). M78 is the brightest diffuse reflection in the night sky and looks great when photographed with a telescope, but can also be captured wide-field using a camera and lens.
Astronomers Just Caught a Glimpse of Incredible Hidden Stars in …
2016年10月3日 · Using the European Southern Observatory's (ESO) Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA) - also known as the 'dust buster' - astronomers are able to see details that would have otherwise remained hidden behind cosmic dust, which in visible light makes M78 appear like a blur in the night sky.

M78 Reflection Nebula in Orion | Pictures, Location, & Information
M78 is classified as a reflection nebula because the dust particles are reflecting starlight from the intensely hot, young stars beneath it. VISTA, the infrared survey telescope at ESO’s Paranal Observatory in Chile, captured an exquisite portrait of this star-forming region in 2016.
ESO’s VISTA Telescope Sees Hidden Stars in Messier 78
2016年10月5日 · In this newly released image of Messier 78, young stars cast a bluish pall over their surroundings, while red fledgling stars peer out from their cocoons of cosmic dust. To our eyes, most of these stars would be hidden behind the dust, but VISTA sees near-infrared light, which passes right through dust.
M78
M78 is a magnitude 8.3 nebula in the constellation of Orion, and is located at a distance of about 1,600 light years. Also visible are NGC 2071, the blue reflection nebula to the center left, and NGC 2067, the nebula above M78 across the dark rift. …
