A repeating fast radio burst source in a globular cluster
2022年2月23日 · Here we report observations that localized the FRB to a globular cluster associated with M81, where it is 2 parsecs away from the optical centre of the cluster. Globular clusters host old...
Title: A burst storm from the repeating FRB 20200120E in an M81 ...
2022年6月8日 · The repeating fast radio burst (FRB) source FRB 20200120E is exceptional because of its proximity and association with a globular cluster. Here we report $60$ bursts detected with the Effelsberg...
Implications of a rapidly varying FRB in a globular cluster of M81
2021年12月2日 · If this is true, we predict that M81-FRB-like sources should be found in elliptical galaxies as well as the halo of star-forming galaxies in the future – FRBs provide an unprecedented, exciting opportunity to study extragalactic NSs born in old stellar environments.
A Bright Fast Radio Burst from FRB 20200120E with Sub-100
2021年9月22日 · We have detected a bright radio burst from FRB 20200120E with the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN) 70 m dish (DSS-63) at radio frequencies between 2.2 and 2.3 GHz. This repeating fast radio burst (FRB) is reported to be associated with a globular cluster in the M81 galactic system.
A burst storm from the repeating FRB 20200120E in an M81 …
The repeating fast radio burst (FRB) source FRB 20200120E is exceptional because of its proximity and association with a globular cluster. Here we report 60 bursts detected with the Effelsberg telescope at 1.4 GHz.
A bright burst from FRB 20200120E in a globular cluster of the
2024年8月28日 · Repeating fast radio burst, FRB 20200120E, has been localized to a globular cluster M81. Here, the authors show detection of a burst from FRB 20200120E that is 42 times stronger than the ...
Implications of a rapidly varying FRB in a globular cluster of M81
2021年7月8日 · Abstract: A repeating source of fast radio bursts (FRBs) is recently discovered from a globular cluster of M81. Association to a globular cluster (or other old stellar systems) suggests that strongly magnetized neutron stars, which are the most likely objects responsible for FRBs, are born not only when young massive stars undergo core-collapse ...
A Nearby Repeating Fast Radio Burst in the Direction of M81
2021年4月1日 · The recent detection of a repeating fast radio burst (FRB) in an old globular cluster in M81 challenges traditional FRB formation mechanisms based on magnetic activity in young neutron stars...
A Nearby Repeating Fast Radio Burst in the Direction of M81
2021年3月31日 · The FRB localization is close to M81, a spiral galaxy at a distance of 3.6 Mpc. The FRB appears on the outskirts of M81 (projected offset ∼20 kpc) but well inside its extended H i and thick disks. We empirically estimate the probability of a chance coincidence with M81 to be <10 −2. However, we cannot reject a Milky Way halo origin for the FRB.
Implications of a rapidly varying FRB in a globular cluster of M81
The upper limit on the persistent X-ray luminosity (provided by Chandra), together with the high FRB luminosity and frequent repetitions, severely constrains (or rules out) the possibility that the M81-FRB is a scaled-up version of giant pulses from Galactic pulsars.
