Messier 83 or M83, also known as the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy and NGC 5236, is a barred spiral galaxy [7] approximately 15 million light-years away in the constellation borders of Hydra and Centaurus.

2024年4月5日 · M83 - The Southern Pinwheel - Meade 12" ACF at f/5 - Orion G26 - 3/4/24 - posted in Beginning Deep Sky Imaging: This is 4 hours on M82 using 15s subs. Processed in APP. I maybe should use my ADC for these more southerly targets. I compensated by running the image through Wavesharp RGB Align and shifted to compensate for the dispersion manually.

2018年4月24日 · Stacking: Mean with a 2-sigma clip. This beautiful barred spiral lies so far south that I can only image it for about an hour. To get a reasonable number of subs I combined source images taken on two consecutive evenings; 17 on the evening of April 19th and another 17 on the evening of the 20th.

M83 is 14700000 light years away from Earth. M83 is best viewed during mid-summer, is magnitude 7.5, and can be viewed with binoculars. M83 is 13' x 11.5' in apparent size.

2020年5月19日 · Started from scratch with M83, the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy. This time no moon, longer exposures as well as many more darks and bias and suddenly there are colours. Focus a touch off - auto focus on my list for after lockdown and dew bands - using a hair drier after each 2 exposures is just the pits.
