Wang et al. reveal that N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification of the long noncoding RNA MALAT1 is critical for the metastatic ability of cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo. MALAT1-m6A recognition by YTHDC1 regulates the composition and function of nuclear speckles, thereby amplifying cancer gene expression.
