The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), also known locally as the 'G, [10] is a sports stadium located in Yarra Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. [11] Founded and managed by the Melbourne Cricket Club, it is the largest stadium in the Southern Hemisphere, the 11th largest globally, and the second-largest cricket stadium by capacity.

Founded in 1838, the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) played across three different locations in Melbourne before being granted permission to establish a permanent ground in "Police Paddock” in 1853.

Melbourne Cricket Club was founded in November 1838 when the population of the Port Phillip District was only about 2000. The first cricket match was played between the MCC and a military team on the Old Mint site in William Street, Melbourne.
