The MG K-type Magnette is a motor car produced in the United Kingdom by MG from October 1932 to 1934. Launched at the 1932 London Motor Show, the K-Type replaced the F-Type Magna but having at first a slightly smaller capacity engine it took the name Magnette.

At international sports car races and record-breaking events, the MG K3 was a serious competitor. It won its class in the Mille Miglia; our car won the index performance in 1934 at Le Mans. The famous MG K3 known as EX 135 set many records for its displacement size. Drivers found it a magnificent car to handle and viewers marveled at its grace.

In its class, the K3 remained at the top for the best part of two years, becoming one of the most successful racing cars of all time. The two prototype K3s differed from the production K3s in several ways, with the production specification as follows.

Much like a miniature version of the Bentley Blower, the K3 relied on its front-mounted supercharger. The K-series represented MG’s mid-size car, featuring a modified inline-6 borrowed from Woseley’s Hornet. MG took this 1100cc engine and used a cross-flow head, a magneto and, for the first time, a preselector gearbox.

EX-135 is the most famous K3 Magnette of all. Radically modified and specially bodied in starting in 1933 for George Eyston, this "Humbug" (so nicknamed because of its lengthwise brown and cream stripes) was designed as a racer-come-record-breaker with alternative bodies - one very narrow with exposed wheels, the other all enveloping.

4 天之前 · Supercharged, the K3 was an immediate international class winner as a sport car. In 1934, converted to single seaters and driven by the likes of Hugh Hamilton and Dick Seaman, the MG K3 was capable of competing with the T51A Bugatti and 4CM Maserati.

2013年5月6日 · The MG K3 Magnette is quite a remarkable motor car, this example actually won the Mille Miglia in 1933 in the hands of the capable racing driver Earl Howe. The Earl is also largely responsible for the model’s existence as he pressured the MG factory to build it, even going so far as to underwrite the development costs.

The newly introduced K-series Magnette was chosen as the basis for the new MG racing car. With a displacement of 1087cc, the Magnette's six cylinder engine was perfect for the popular Class G for up to 1100 cc sports cars.
