These LMP1 and LMP2 chassis, powered by HPD LM-V8 units, have largely dominated petrol-powered competition in the American Le Mans Series since they were introduced in 2007. RML's Lola HPD proved to be fast and reliable. It duly took third in the LMP2 class at Le Mans in June, and then wrapped up 2010 by securing the LMP2 team and drivers' titles for Mike and Tommy in the Le Mans Series.

The MG-Lola EX257 (sometimes referred to as simply MG EX257) is a Le Mans Prototype racing car built by Lola for the MG car company for their attempt to compete again at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2001. The car has had many years of mixed success since its introduction, even in privateer hands.

With support from the AD Group of companies, RML introduced their MG sportscar programme in November 2003. Five full seasons in the Le Mans Series followed, with Mike Newton and Thomas Erdos campaigning the cars with great success, including two class wins in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2005 and 2006.

Given the complexity of its original HPD engine installation - and its availability exclusively on a leased basis - the car was converted to normally aspirated Judd HK V8 power at this juncture; its new BMW M3-based powerplant affording the twin benefits of being both a period Lola LMP2 engine option and eminently cost-effective.
