This is the KING DICK screw jack supplied with MGA 1500/1600 cars. This model is commonly called the "bow tie" or "hour glass" jack because of the shape of the base. It has a three-piece handle similar to the one shown at far bottom of page.

The early 1500s (numbers unknown) came with a Shelley LJ23 - http://www.classic-british-car-jacks.uk/shelley_jacks_2.htm#Shelley_LJ23. It appears to be one of the earlier ones that has the SF cast above the model number, so it might not be exactly the correct jack for my car, but it's what I have so I'll probably keep it.

This jack is spec'd to lift up to 3000 pounds, so it has a speed reducer at the input that makes cranking a little easier, but a bit slower going. Lowers to 4-1/8 inches. Fits under side frame with flat tire.

For changing a tire you can jack up one wheel (as noted in the Owners Manual), and be sure not to get yourself under the car while it is on the jack. For doing anything else under the car, jack up one end or one side, and always use jack stands in pairs either 2 or 4 stands.
