2020年10月21日 · Native HD support aside, the only benefit of MGS2:HD that comes to mind is that it's available in both Japanese and English voices (albeit as different releases); MGS2: Substance only has English voices even for its JP release. tl;dr Unless you have a preference for Japanese voices in MGS2 (which Substance lacks), you'll be fine with the PS2 games.

2023年3月13日 · Main thing is that mgs2 uses so many extra graphical effects for cutscenes, extra lights, crossfades, color filters, etc, etc and the pc version breaks some of them. The ps3 version breaks almost all of them.

I have MGS2 for PC & PS2 (emulation, I need much better hardware) both available, I'm weighing my options. Native PC is much easier than emulation, however I'm trying to play the OG JP version & the "special editions" only have the English dub? (IIRC TLC has the special editions in HD in Japanese. 2019年8月24日 · The PS2 version has slower load times and slightly worse graphics, but you get Snakeboarding. The Xbox version has horrible slowdown in places (i.e. outside the Tanker in the rain, or during the Fortune fight on higher difficulties.

MGS2 on PS2 is still a great experience, especially on a CRT. Unlike MGS3 on PS2, it runs at a nice 60fps on original hardware. Every version released for every console afterwards is missing at least some of the special graphic effects, like layers of rain in the Tanker, depth of field effects, heatwaves in the Plant, etc.
