DL #3000, a MLW C630M, at the Steamtown National Historic Site in 2008. The ALCO Century 630 is a model of six-axle, 3,000 hp (2.2 MW) diesel-electric locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) between 1965 and 1967.

Arguably, there were four different C630 models, each slightly different than the other (depending on builder): C630 - built by Alco in Schenectady, NY (77 units) C630M - built by MLW in Montreal (56 in accordance with Alco C630 specifications) C630 (upgraded C628) - modifiied by NdeM in Mexico (20 units? in-line with Alco specs.)

2024年12月23日 · The C630 was Alco's second model in its six-axle series. Capable of producing more horsepower than its predecessor, the model sold well, but not as well as the C628 with more than 100 purchased between its Schenectady and Montreal plants.

The C630 was launched in 1965, prompted by the impending launches of locomotives by both GE and EMD of equivalent size, and was the first production locomotive to use AC technology, as DC generators were too large and complex to be used at such high powers. It was powered by a 3,000-horsepower, 16-cylinder, Model 251E engine.

Montreal Locomotive Works produced a C630M variant of the C630, with 4 for British Columbia Railway, 8 for Canadian Pacific Railway and 44 for Canadian National. MLW M630s were built by Montreal Locomotive Works from 1969 to 1973: 29 for CPR, 26 for BCR, and 20 for Ferrocarriles Nacional de Mexico (N de M).
