The MLW RS-18 was an 1,800 hp (1,340 kW) diesel-electric locomotive built by Montreal Locomotive Works between December 1956 and August 1968. It replaced the RS-10 in MLW's catalogue, and production totalled 351 locomotives, to eight customers.

The 1800 series units were rebuilt MLW RS-18 units, which were originally built as #8729-8800 in 1957 and 1958. They were fitted with an ALCO V12 251 engine, generating 1,800 Hp. The RS18 units were rebuilt and chop-nosed between 1980 and 1989 at CP's Montreal Angus shops. They emerged as RS18u's #1800-1868.

Nice example of a 1967 Montreal Locomotive Works built RS-18 unit for the Canadian National as #3860. It was rebuilt in August of 1969 after being wrecked.
