Testing and Labeling for Safety in Magnetic Resonance Environment
2023年10月10日 · This guidance document provides the FDA's recommendations on testing to assess the safety and compatibility of medical devices in a magnetic resonance (MR) environment and the recommended format...
Information and Terminology for THE LIST - MRI Safety
The current MRI labeling terminology is intended to help elucidate matters related to biomedical implants and devices to ensure the safe use of MRI technology.
New marking requirements for devices used in MR environments define a device as being MR conditional if “the device has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR envi-ronment with specified conditions of use.” The new MR safe will be a much higher standard than currently and will be absolute.

Terminology - Magnetic Resonance Safety Testing
MR Compatible - a device shall be considered "MR compatible" if it is MR safe and the device, when used in the MRI environment, has been demonstrated to neither significantly affect the quality of the diagnostic information nor have its operations affected by the MR system.
Multiple leads can be connected to MR Conditional devices. Each lead needs to be checked for MRI compatibility and individual scan parameters. Not all lead lengths are MR Conditional. The device/lead combinations tables below (page 2) lists the MR Conditional lead lengths.
MRI Safety Testing is crucial for medical devices used within a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) environment. By submitting medical devices and implants to these tests, manufacturers can receive specific recommendations on MRI safety and compatibility and recommended labelling information for premarket submissions.
include the appropriate symbol from ASTM F2503 and/or the corresponding term in your labeling. Specifically, if the device is MR Safe or MR Conditional, we recommend that you include information describing the safety of your medical device in the MR environment in a separate section of your labeling entitled “MRI Safety Information.” To

What if a product doesn’t have a safety icon? Does that mean it can’t be used for MRI? No, it may still be designated as “MRI Compatible” according to the old standard. The lack of an icon simply means that the manufacturer has yet to re-test their products according to the new standard.

The terms MR safe and MR compatible as first defined in 1997 in the FDA draft guidance document, “A Primer on Medical Device Interactions with Magnetic Resonance Imaging Systems,” have been used to describe the safety of devices in and near MR systems.
