PHO provides testing using 2 different respiratory test panels – these are multiplex respiratory virus PCR (MRVP) and FLUVID. MRVP testing is performed on the following eligible persons: Symptomatic children (<18 years) seen in the Emergency Department (ED) Symptomatic hospitalized patients (ward, inpatient and ICU/CCU)

Multiplex Respiratory Virus Panel (MRVP): You may collect up to four MRVP swabs per outbreak. For MRVP, obtain specimens from clients with the most representative symptoms of the suspected illness prior to starting antibiotics. Methyl Red (MR) and Voges-Proskauer (VP) broth is used as a part of the IMViC tests as the medium in which both the Methyl Red and Voges-Prosakuer tests can be performed.
