The Minnesota Student Survey (MSS) is a long-running survey of Minnesota students in grades 5, 8, 9, and 11 that tracks a wide variety of youth behaviors, risk and protective factors and outcomes related to education, health, safety and well-being.

The Minnesota Student Survey (MSS) is one of the longest-running youth surveys in the nation. It is a triennial survey that began in 1989. July 2024: MSS Interagency Team reviews survey items for the 2025 survey. MDE begins developing the MSS registration system and online survey. August 2024: The Minnesota Department of Education notifies superintendents and district assessment coordinators about the 2025 MSS and their obligations under the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment.
