The Ulster University Derry~Londonderry campus, better known as Magee College, is one of the four campuses of Ulster University. It is located in Derry, Northern Ireland, and was opened in 1865 as a Presbyterian Christian arts and theological college.

Located in the North West of Northern Ireland and a short distance from County Donegal, Derry~Londonderry is ideally situated for exploring some of Ireland’s most dramatic landscapes. Ongoing investment has provided state-of-the-art teaching, research and support facilities for students and staff.

Our Magee campus is ideally located for public transport access by both bus and rail. We will be partnering with Translink to promote the full range of their travel planning support options for our students transitioning to our new Belfast campus.

The year 2015 marked the 150th anniversary of the opening of Magee College in Londonderry, named after its co-founder, Martha Maria Magee (nee Stewart). The original Magee Presbyterian College was opened on 10 October 1865 under the terms of the will of Mrs Magee of Dublin, the widow of a Presbyterian minister.

Magee Presbyterian College opened in Derry in 1865 for theology studies, later providing ‘literary and scientific instruction’. It could not award general degrees, though from 1909 students could transfer to Trinity College, Dublin.

Magee College was built in 1865 in an elegant Victorian Gothic style. Derry was then a rapidly developing industrial center and although the College’s principal function at the time was to educate the Presbyterian ministry, it was from the outset open to all denominations.

Since 1953, it has had no religious affiliation and provides a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate academic degree programmes in disciplines ranging from business, law, social work, creative arts & technologies, cinematic arts, design, computer science and computer games to psychology and nursing.

In the centre of Londonderry, on the west bank of the river Foyle. Magee College has terraced grounds, laid out in 1865 by D. Ferguson, curator of the Belfast Botanic Gardens.
