The Majestic (Chinese: 大华戏院; pinyin: Dàhuá xìyuàn) is a historic building on Eu Tong Sen Street in Chinatown, Singapore next to Chinatown MRT station. Located between the People's Park Complex and Yue Hwa Building, it was known as Majestic Theatre, which was a Cantonese opera house. [1]

The former majestic theatre attracted the most glamorous opera stars from China. With their beautifully painted faces and exquisite costumes, they performed to capacity audiences. Standing ovations and catcalls filled the theatre every night.

The Majestic Theatre was opened in the 1930’s, and is located adjacent to the famous Great Southern Hotel which was built in 1936 (now a Chinese department store) in the centre of Chinatown. The centre of the facade is decorated with five Chinese figures, and is framed with a tiled Chinese style border.

The Majestic (previously known as the Majestic Theatre) is a major Chinatown landmark with a long history closely connected to Singaporean pioneer Eu Tong Sen. Its architecture features a mix of Cantonese and Western influences that reflect how both cultures impacted the Straits Chinese of Singapore.

In 2003, Majestic Theatre was transformed from a theatre into a Mecca of Singapore’s favorite pastime – a shopping center. By the end of 2007, the shopping centre ceased operation.
