Makaiwa Bay (view panorama) is a beautiful sandy cove located south of the Mauna Lani Resort and Mauna Lani Terrace condos. The swimming and snorkeling conditions are good when the ocean is calm. You'll be able to see quite a few fish in the nearshore waters. The beach is surrounded by luxury accommodations.

The bay is small but it has easy access to the water and coral reefs. Near the beach you will find a shack called The Boathouse that rents kayaks, SUPs, and snorkel gear. They also book all sorts of adventures out in the ocean from their boat which uses the boat ramp there.

You’ll find this lovely little cove and its lagoons surrounded by the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and its affiliated condos. The bay sits about 30 miles north of Kona, and you can find the hotel, its condos and the beach between mile markers 73 and 74.

If you walk left upon reaching the lava inlet when first arriving at the ocean you will be able to walk to Makaiwa Bay and Beach which is fronting what was referred to by passing guests as the “owners beach” presumably because it was located in front of the private Mauna Lani Beach Club.

Makaiwa Beach is located within the Mauna Lani development and feels very much like a private beach due to its small size and the surrounding estate. Mauna Lani Beach is the beach in front of the Mauna Lani Auberge Resort. This is not a huge sandy beach, but it’s a picturesque spot and it has a safe swimming area. Lounge chairs provided by the resort for their guests occupy most of the sandy real estate behind the beach.

Makaiwa Bay is a charming little beach within the Mauna Lani resort. The bay is a favorite for beginner scuba divers and great for snorkeling. This is also the location of the Makaiwa Bay Fish pond.
