Malays (/ məˈleɪ / mə-LAY; Malay: Orang Melayu, Jawi: اورڠ ملايو ‎) are an Austronesian ethnoreligious group native to eastern Sumatra, the Malay Peninsula and coastal Borneo, as well as the smaller islands that lie between these locations.
