The A249 is a road in Kent, England, running from Maidstone to Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey. It mainly functions as a link between the M2 and M20 motorways, and for goods vehicle traffic to the port at Sheerness. In 2006, an upgraded dual carriageway section opened between Iwade and Queenborough, including a new fixed crossing over the Swale.

The A249 is a major road in north Kent and the main road on the Isle of Sheppey. The northern section is a trunk road. The road starts at traffic lights on the A229 one-way loop in the centre of Maidstone. Some maps show that Knightrider Street which runs one-way westbound through the centre of the loop is also part of the A249.

2024年4月15日 · The A249 Southbound carriageway remains closed from the Stockbury roundabout (M2 J5) following a large diesel spillage near Pilgrims Way junction at Detling. Northbound A249 traffic is currently being held to allow for trapped traffic within the closure to be turned around and released.

You will be taken off the A249 southbound to the Stockbury Roundabout, where a diversion will take you onto the M2 London-bound, A229 (Blue Bell Hill), M20 and back to the A249. For non-motorway traffic, please use the A2, A229 and A249.
