I love marmite. During peak pandemic, the whole yeast extract section of Tescos was bare, except for a couple of jars of Vegemite. Having run out of marmite, I bought one, but hated it. I just went without until the marmite was back in stock. I found it had a sort of metallic, bitter aftertaste which I found really unpleasant.

2011年4月8日 · Kiwi marmite is odd... it has the name Marmite but is made by a different company and tastes very different to the british Marmite. British marmite can be found in New Zealand under the name "Our Mate" in the familiar jar, or you sometimes come across expensive British marmite.

You can find Marmite and Vegemite. They just aren’t common. Though, pretty much any big grocery store will have a jar or two. It will just probably be buried on some random shelf somewhere. I’m guessing it is as common as peanut butter where you are.

However the TV advert TOLD us that hate is ok… to the Lowrider music saying “my mate…. marmite” when a good thing happens or “I hate…. marmite” when the character cries while eating it!

I ordered Marmite online ( I live in US) and when it arrived it had oozed out over the label . The cap still appears to be tight , probably cemented on by the marmite itself . Is it safe to eat , still nutritious. Any advice appreciated . I hate to just chuck it , its one of the 500g jars

Marmite was made way before vegimite. Vegimite was made in Australia when it became difficult to ship Marmite during the world wars. However, you can, of course, now buy marmite in Australia. The thing is, it is Marmite that is tailored to the Australian taste, therefore not quite the same as the original sold in the UK.

The "Marmite" they sell in Australian supermarkets is the garbage sweet Sanitarium stuff. True British "Marmite" is saltier than Vegemite, but is sold as "Our Mate" in Australian supermarkets. Furthermore it's on an entirely different shelf & aisle usually - normally bottom shelf in the British/International section.

I tried it once and my south american palate didnt like it at all, but its a quite divisive food: some love it, many hate it. recently I've seen some people use it as an ingredient to give a "meaty" flavour to vegan food

The best use of Marmite is on toast, lightly buttered, a scrape of Marmite, slather on some avocado and top with fine ground pepper (not the pepper mill course ground pepper). I was introduced to this in the mid-80s. Been a staple ever since.
