The Maserati 450S (Tipo 54) is a racing car made by Italian automobile manufacturer Maserati for participating in FIA 's endurance World Sportscar Championship racing. A total of nine were made. Development of the 450S started in 1954 under the codename Tipo 54 led by Vittorio Bellentani and Guido Taddeucci.

The Maserati 450S stands as one of the most illustrious and potent racing machines from the storied Italian manufacturer, embodying Maserati's ambition to dominate international sports car racing during the late 1950s. With its creation, Maserati sought to challenge its competitors on the world stage, including Ferrari, Jaguar, and Aston Martin.

Now clothed in a redesigned, tubular chassis, outfitted with a coil-spring suspension and De Dion rear axle, and carrying the powerful 400hp, 4.478L V8 engine (able to reach an astonishing 181 mph!), the magnificent 450s was born.

1957 Maserati 450S Built to contest the 1957 World Sportscar Championship, the 450 S was the biggest threat to Jaguar, Ferrari and Aston Martin. At the forefront of its competitor’s minds was the awesome 400 bhp V8. Maserati had repeated success with the 3-litre 300S, when they decided to take advantage of the displacement limits.

1957 Maserati 450S Costin-Zagato This one-of Maserati Coupe was developed for Le Mans and it was the only Maserati 450S fitted with a Coupe body. After a poor performance at Le Mans it was larger enlarged and used as a road-going supercar. The first 450S engine was installed in 350S chassis 3501 and renumbered to 4501.

With this immense figure, the quad cam, V8 engined 450S was the most powerful front engine sportscar. It was only surpassed by the Panoz prototypes in the late 1990s.

2004年3月4日 · Building on the success of the six-cylinder 300S, second place overall car in the 1956 World Sportscar Championship, the new V8-engined 450S seemed a logical progression for 1957. Having wrung every last horsepower from the six, Maserati obliged its drivers by fitting a new V8, conservatively rated at 400bhp.

Built to challenge V12-equipped Ferrari sports racing cars, the Maserati 450S bore a front-mounted 4.5-liter V8 engine capable of rocketing the car from a standing start to 100 mph in eleven seconds.
