The Matanuska River (Dena'ina: Ch'atanhtnu; Ahtna: Ts'itonhna’) is a 75-mile (121 km) long river in Southcentral Alaska, United States. [3] The river drains a broad valley south of the Alaska Range eponymously known as the Matanuska Valley.

The Matanuska River in south-central Alaska drains an area of 2,100 mi2 that includes portions of the Chugach and Talkeetna Mountains (fig. 1). The river originates upstream of the Matanuska Glacier and is extensively braided throughout most of its course.
