MATH-040 provides an introduction to basic concepts in statistics and probability. The emphasis is on understanding intuitions behind statistical principles and applications to data analysis. Topics to be covered include descriptive statistics, probability and sampling distributions, parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, and linear regression.

Matrix Algebra, systems of linear equations, linear programming, Markov processes, and game theory. Applications to business and the biological and social sciences are included.

Identify different types of numbers, including real numbers, integers, rationals, and irrationals. Determine absolute values and negatives of numbers. Translate word problems into algebraic expressions. Evaluate and simplify algebraic expressions. Equations and Inequalities: Rearrange formulas to isolate a specified variable.
