One major issue that's been discovered over the years is the catalytic converters getting fouled and jammed up, causing the engines to fail. Luckily, swapping a Duratec V6 from a Fusion was a quick and easy fix at the time, and many 6 owners did just that.

I currently have a 2007 Mazda 6 S Sport Value Sedan. The 3.0L V6 and the AW-F21 (6 Speed Auto) are very reliable. Of course suspension will be worn if you get one. A few takeaways from my experience slowly repairing/restoring mine:

Bought a 2019 Mazda 6 2.5 NA with 115,000km on the clock. Great condition, full Mazda service history and everything works. I just came from a silky smooth Toyota V6 (2GR-FE) with close to 300,000km and finding it hard to get use to the engine and gearbox. Right now that is the 2021 Mazda 6 and a 2021 Mazda MX-5 RF. The Mazda 6 replaced a WRX that was my sports car, and the MX-5 replaced an Audi S4 Avant that was my family car for more than 20 years. Other cars I paired with the S4 included an Audi TT 225, a Mercedes SLK320 with a 6-spd stick (rare in US), and a Nissan 370Z.
