McAfee Knob is a geological feature with an elevation of 3,197 feet (974 m) above sea level, located on Catawba Mountain in Catawba, Virginia, roughly 15 miles northwest of Downtown Roanoke. It is named for a Scottish-Irish 18th-century settler.

2024年5月1日 · McAfee Knob shuttle service will resume in the spring on March 1, 2024. The trailhead on Catawba Valley Drive is marked by a sign that reads “McAfee Knob 3.9 miles.” From here, the ascent begins now, first with a set of wooden steps, as you start to climb a northbound section of the white-blazed Appalachian Trail.

McAfee Knob is a surfboard-like rock feature that juts out from Catawba Mountain in Virginia. The overlook provides visitors with a 270-degree panoramic view of the Catawba Valley due to being 3,200 feet above sea level. In addition, visitors can witness the Roanoke Valley as well as North Mountain and Tinker Cliffs.

The peak at McAfee Knob is 3,171', giving it some of the best views in the state which is no surprise why it is one of the area's most popular hikes. Follow the white-blazed Appalachian Trail marker for panoramic views of the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains.

McAfee Knob is the most photographed spot on the Appalachian Trail for good reason – it is absolutely beautiful. When you reach the end of the trail, you’ll be treated to an amazing 270 degree view overlooking the surrounding mountains. 2020年6月27日 · McAfee Knob is the most photographed site along the Appalachian Trail. The Knob has an almost 270 degree panorama of the Catawba Valley and North Mountain to the west, Tinker Cliffs to the north and the Roanoke Valley to the east.

The hike from the VA 311 parking lot to McAfee Knob is just under 8 miles round-trip, with a 1,400 foot gain in altitude, most of it in the final 1.5 miles. Most people take 4 to 6 hours to complete the hike.
