It was sold as MCER 401. 957, GP9u, was built by Electro-Motive in January 1954, #18766, FN 5308-3, as Chicago Milwaukee St Paul & Pacific 2402, Class 17.5E-RS. In 1959 it was renumbered 215 and then renumbered 255.

AMTK 325 (F40PH) leads the short Boston to Washington Bay State into Palmer, MA, passing MCER 957 (GP20 (GP9u?)) putting together its train in the interchange yard. Given that only 3 cars were required to handle the Bay State's passenger load, it is not terribly surprising that the route was dropped about 1 1/2 years after I took this photo ...

MILW GP20 957 : Description: Milwaukee Road GP20 957 at Franklin Park, Illinois on July 27, 1986, Kodachrome by Gib Allbach, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 957 was built in January 1954 as GP9 2402, renumbered in 1959 to 215, then around 1969 it was renumbered again to second 255 (first 255 was wrecked and became the first GP20 rebuild unit).
