The first Messerschmitt Me 209 was a single-engine racing aircraft designed and produced by the German aircraft manufacturer Messerschmitt. It successfully established several new speed records.

Attempt To Develop a Combat Version of Me 209. In May 1939 the Me 209 V4 (D-IRND) was flight tested. While the previous prototypes were to be used for beating international world records, the V4 was an attempt to adopt the Me 209 for potential military use. It was not requested by the RLM but instead a Messerschmitt private venture.

2023年10月3日 · On April 26, 1939, German test pilot Fritz Wendel flying Me 209 V1 over a three-kilometer course at Augsburg, Germany, established a new world record, achieving a speed of 755 km/h or 469 mph. The early jet prototypes attained greater speeds quite soon, but no other piston-engine aircraft broke this record for the following three decades!

The Me 209 V1's speed record was itself shattered in terms of absolute speed eighteen months later by Heini Dittmar flying another Messerschmitt aircraft design, the Me 163A V4 rocket fighter prototype to a 1,004 km/h (624 mph) record in October 1941.
