Mehmed V Reşâd (Ottoman Turkish: محمد خامس, romanized: Meḥmed-i ḫâmis; Turkish: V. Mehmed or Mehmed Reşad; 2 November 1844 – 3 July 1918) was the penultimate sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1909 to 1918. Mehmed V reigned as a constitutional monarch.

It was the second in just five years — the first having been staged during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II back in July 1908. The 23 January coup took place under his brother and successor Sultan Mehmed V in January 1913.

2024年7月20日 · On April 27, 1909, the Ottoman Parliament (Meclis-i Mebusan) unanimously voted to depose Abdulhamid II and replace him with Mehmed V (Mehmed Resad), leading to Abdulhamid II’s exile. With the upheaval over, martial law was declared in Istanbul, leading to widespread identification and arrest of those involved.

Their tombs stand close to the mosque, as do those of Adile Sultan and Mihrişah Valide Sultan, royal women who were buried in grand complexes along the Cülus Yolu (Accession Road). A little more out on a limb, overlooking the water is the tomb of Sultan Mehmed V which was designed by Mimar Kemaleddin Bey in 1918.

Mehmed V Reshad (Ottoman Turkish: محمد خامس Meḥmed-i ẖâmis, Turkish language: Mehmed V Reşad or Reşat Mehmet) (2 November 1844 – 3 July 1918) was the 35th Ottoman Sultan. He was the son of Sultan Abdülmecid I. [2] He was succeeded by his half-brother Mehmed VI. Sultan of the Ottomans Mehmed V in Ottoman naval uniform.
