However, the most information I can find about these indigenous sources are from 2014 and I can't access the full paper.

I found an inscription of two Meroe elephants with striae, somewhat resembling the elephant with the harness, however without dots in the open fields between the striae. It comes from a bronze beaker with an incised scene of two elephants, who are holding what seem to be a number of rings in ther trunks.
