The University of Pennsylvania Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) is a student-run, service organization providing emergency medical services to the University community.

MERT is a group of specialized health care practitioners dedicated to promoting the health and safety of patients. The team is activated whenever a patient experiences an unexpected change in mental status, blood pressure, heart rate or rhythm, or breathing.

Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) members provide support for medically related issues and emergencies which occur in the school community. MERT members are called upon to assist with medical incidents in the school setting. They act as first responders for medical support until the school nurse or EMT arrive at the scene.
