2023年8月27日 · Since the 90s, designs on Metra tickets have been very detailed with ornate patterns, illustrations, or photos but these tickets from ‘78 and ‘79 stand out for their bold simplistic design. I love the strong typography showing the valid zones of travel (A and B) and the splashes of color from the diagonal stripes on an otherwise plain design.

I did this model in July 2017. Since then I have reworked it extensively and am very pleased with the result. It was based on the Metra Chicago Train line with which I am quite familiar. It was modeled and mirrored in Maya 2018, textured in Substance Painter, and rendered in Marmoset.

Through the physicality of the painting process, the work investigates polarities between vulnerability & control, revealing & concealing identities, and the juncture between composure & confusion. Within the theater of painting, the bodies and the space physically become a playground ripe with human drama welcoming madness in a friendly manner.
