The MGA was a sports car produced by MG division of the British Motor Corporation from 1955 to 1962. The MGA replaced the older T-type cars and represented a complete styling break from the older vehicles. The car was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show of 1955. It was replaced by the MGB when production ceased in July 1962.

The MG A was a complete departure in styling for MG. Its beautiful streamlined body was right up to the minute in terms of appearance, and it was powered by a new engine, as MG had decided that the old XPAG unit had had its day.

The 1960 MG A received a new model designation of 1600 MK I, in reference to its newly enlarged four-cylinder engine displacement of 1588cc (96.9 cubic-inch). The over-head-valve unit had two SU semi-downdraft carburetors, three main bearings, an 8.3:1 compression ratio, and developed 80 horsepower at 5600 RPM.
