Supplied new by one of the most famous of all MG dealerships, University Motors of London, this MG TA ‘Tickford’, one of just 260 such cars coachbuilt by Salmons & Sons of Newport Pagnell, was delivered by MG to Salmons on 20 October 1938 and first registered on 1st March 1939.

Featuring elegant and versatile Drophead Coupe coachwork, the TA Tickford bridged the gap in MG’s model range between the TA two-seater and 1.5-liter VA.

1939 MG TB Tickford Navigation. The MG TA Midget appeared in the spring of 1936 as a replacement for the MG PB. It featured many components borrowed from Morris. Channel sections replaced the tubular cross-members making the vehicles ride more comfortable. The suspension was provided by leaf springs and beam-axle in the front and rear.

I bought this car in 1968 in Plymouth. It was my first car and I subsequently ran it until 1976 as my daily car, including regular trips from Plymouth to Leeds where I got my degree.
