The Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low series is a retired long-range special operations and combat search and rescue (CSAR) helicopter for the United States Air Force. The series was upgraded from the HH-53B/C, variants of the Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion .

The MH-53M Pave Low IV is a J-model that has been modified with the Interactive Defensive Avionics System/Multi-Mission Advanced Tactical Terminal or IDAS/MATT. The system enhances present defensive capabilities of the Pave Low.

Equipped with forward-looking infrared (FLIR) sensors, inertial global positioning systems (GPS), Doppler radar navigation systems, and terrain-following and terrain-avoidance radar, the MH-53 could fly clandestine, low-level missions in any weather, day or night.

The MH-53 Pave Low is a variant of the US Air Force's Sikorsky HH-53 Super Jolly Green Giant and the US Navy's CH-53 Sea Stallion. The MH-53 is used for long-range combat search and rescue (CSAR) and was developed to replace the HH-3 Jolly Green Giant.

2008年9月30日 · U.S. Air Force MH-53 Pave Low's from the 20th Expeditionary Special Operations taxi onto to a runway in Iraq prior to the last combat mission of the Pave Low helicopter Sept. 27. The MH-53 Pave Low is being retired after nearly 40 years of service to the United States Air Force.

In April 1974, the HH-53 modification program was signed and incorporated a radar with terrain following/avoidance avionics called "PAVE LOW III". The original eight HH-53H’s were the very first U.S. Air Force helicopters modified to become the MH-53J PAVE LOW III.
