The MiG-19 Farmer was a Soviet fighter aircraft made by Mikoyan. It first flew in 1953 and was introduced in 1955. It was meant to replace the older MiG-17 Fresco. Fortunately, MiG-19 was deployed in Vietnam in modest numbers, compared to MiG-17 and MiG-21. Vietnamese were not the same class as US pilots (in general), and MiG-19 was not easy to maintain and operate properly, therefore never much in favor of Soviet-bloc air forces.
