The Mazda MX-5 (NA) (sold in Japan as the Eunos Roadster (ユーノス・ロードスター, Yūnosu Rōdosutā) and in North America as the Mazda MX-5 Miata) is the first generation of the Mazda MX-5, manufactured from 1989 to 1997.

The first generation of the Mazda Miata, internally known as the NA, was inspired by classic roadsters such as the MGB, the Fiat 124 Spider, and the Lotus Elan. Indeed, Mazda engineers disassembled an Elan while designing the original Miata. The NA was introduced powered by a 1.6-liter twincam four producing 116hp.
