Master Miao Lian was the teacher of the famous monk Xu Yun (1840-1959), and conveyed to him the Ch’an lineage of the Cao Dong School. Miao Lian was born in 1824, and was ordained in 1844 at the Yongquan Temple by the elderly monks Liang Gong and Huai Gong, situated on Mount Gu, Fujian province.
