In Quentin Tarantino's film 'Inglourious Basterds' Fassbender plays a British officer who can speak fluent German. But when an SS officer hears Fassbender speaking German, he says Fassbender has a very odd accent. So, Germans of Germany, did you notice anything odd about Fassbender's German accent in the film?

2023年12月26日 · Its amusing that this is surprising, as many Americans (many of whom rarely encounter a native speaker of another language) can tell apart various accents for native English speakers (various American and British accents, Jamaican, Canadian, etc) and could with minimal exposure tell apart a Euro French person speaking English vs a Quebecois.

I just watched an interview with Fassbender where they interviewed him in German. If anything they worked hard to make him sound more German in the movie than the other way around. On a side note: as a German that scene really,surprised me. I am used to Germans being portrayed with bad accents in movies (but who are supposed to be genuine Germans).

I'm not native German, I got to roughly c1 level while living I. Germany. But I was truly immersed living and working in a small village in Schleswig Holstein almost never hearing English. I got very good at being able to tell if someone wasn't native german even if here accents were miniscule.
