Mimmo Rotella (Catanzaro, 1918 - Milan, 2006) was one of the most active Italian artists within the Nouveau Réalisme movement that developed in the 1960s.

Mimmo Rotella was born on October 7, 1918, in Catanzaro, Italy. He studied art at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples and moved to Rome in 1945. Initially painting in a figurative idiom, he later developed an abstract and geometrical style.

Domenico “Mimmo” Rotella studied art at the Academy of fine arts in Naples. In 1945 he started working in Rome as a draughtsman and realising figurative and geometrical-abstract paintings. In 1949 he began formulating “Epistaltic” (phonetic) Poems, which combine invented words, sounds and onomatopoeias.
