The basic driveline layout of the Eclipse is a transverse-mounted I4 Chrysler 420A, Mitsubishi 4G64, or 4G63 engine. The Mitsubishi engines are mounted in the same orientation as the first generation cars. The 420A-powered cars had the engine mounted on the right side of the car, and further back in the chassis.

2012年1月17日 · This resulted in the then new neon engine, the 420a you speak of, to be used in a mitsubishi product, while the venerable 4g63 was used in a chrysler product. What I am getting at is that the 420a is a decent motor in a 2300lb(neon) car but when saddled with nearly 500lbs(eclipse) more, it feels a bit more sluggish.

2003年9月21日 · 420A is the model of the Chrysler-made 2G 2.0L non-turbo engine. Fundamentally different from the Mitsu 4G63 engines, the 420A represents a distinct shift in DSM evolution, as Chrysler took over engine duties on the non-turbo cars. Generally, components from 420A engines cannot be fitted to the 4G63 engines, or vice versa.
