2018年7月1日 · I have a water pump that's very leaky. I think this image asks the question better than words can: I've never done packing on a water pump before, but I ordered some 1/8" graphite packing material from Restoration Supply. Right now, the pump is leaking significantly enough that I expect the cooling system to be empty by morning. Thoughts? Thanks!

2008年12月8日 · The serial # of the parts engine I am refering to is #49498. The car I am preserving is #49600. The water pump on the workbench in the preceeding photos are of the pump off #49600. When I rebuilt a water pump for the " driver/preservation ", I practiced on the worst pump first. That was the pump off #49600.

2020年5月7日 · Depending on the diameter of your water pump shaft, Snyder's Antique Auto (Model A supplier) makes these neat little rings that are already pre-formed and ready to install. I think they're about 5/8" ID so if your shaft is around 5/8, they're a much easier solution.

2008年10月4日 · The Model A water pump has a compression packing. You have to occasionally (decades in time if you drive a little each year) add more. When you get a drip you use a screw driver to crank it down until it stops. Now you want to first back the nut out and make sure your shaft looks good. The shaft should be smooth.

5 天之前 · The original was a rope packing Packing generally used now is square graphite impregnated packing, You'll need about 3 rings. Its a 3/4" shaft and the OD of the housing is 1.500 so I would try 3/8 x either 1/4 or 5/16" I wouldn't use anything with teflon, especially if the shaft has been replaced with 316SS !!!!

2013年1月4日 · The water pump did have significant play in the shaft from lack of packing (I fixed that early on) but very little shaft end play. When I opened up the pump housing it was not worn excessively but I wondered if the flow was bypassing the impeller behind it due to the play.
